Why & how do drug residues occur ?
A 5 state survey conducted by Wilson, Sears and Hutchinson (1998) found the most common reasons for drug violations were:
- Hurried or new milkers
- Lack of communication with milkers
- Problems with noticing marked treated cows
- Dry cow or treated cow joining the herds
- Treated cow accidentally milked
- Equipment problem
- Inaccurate drug testing
- Vandalism or sabotage
